Synthetic Quill Wrap Buzzers

As you can hopefully see from the photo, a variety of quill wrap colours are available, i've used Grey/Orange/Green and beige.
Each strip will/should tie about three/four bodies, (dependant on body size!)
The object of the exercise is to try and keep the fly body and thorax as thin as possible.
Good luck and tight lines.

Tried out the new-ish? imitation strip quill, it's certainly easy to use, and makes a very neat body, and comes in a variety of colours.
Tying:-
hook - 12 - 14 L/shank
Body - quill strip
Thorax - tying thread
Wing buds - goose biots
                                                                                Thorax cover - holographic tinsel

Finally cover with varnish/hard-as-nails to form a smooth covering.
Should be worth a swim or two!

Wanted a floating fly to make a large wake at night, and with a sting in the tail! these are a variation on the sea trout flies in the fly gallery.
Yet to give them a wetting, should be soon hopefully.

Guest day on the Axe

Today, 2nd of June, i took a guest to fish at Winsham. Not a nice sort of day to start with, cold-ish and dull/overcast, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Walking downstream to the start of the beat we did see one fish rise, after fishing for about half an hour it started to get a bit brighter, rounding a bend in the river, lo and behold, a rising fish. couple of casts later and said fish was hooked, unhooked, and safely returned, another first for the guest. A little further on and another fish rose, cast to and caught, a better fish than the previous, and also safely returned to fight another day. In all 8 fish caught and all safely returned.
It later emerged that several people had taken him to fish various rivers with no success! so to get him his first! river brown trout was quite an achievement for me.
Hope you all have been catching, rather than just fishing.

Sherborne Fair

Well the sun came out at sherborne, along with the visitors, however, not many tried their hand at casting, it was a rather poor effort really, from 9-30am until just gone 4pm when we decided to call it a day, crowds streaming past and very few would try their hand at casting, never mind another day another dollar! as they say.
