An article for making your own furled leaders appeared in one of the fly fishing magazines, managed to persuade a friend to make up the board, as per the plans.
And have been busy practicing/making my own!
The first couple turned out ( more inside out! ) pretty hopeless, the next one broke, too many turns! but, finally i have managed to turn out two or three that appear reasonable, the one using 2lb nylon seems a bit thick at the base ( attachment to fly line ) But the ones using 11/2lb nylon appear a better proposition.
The ones using tying thread turned out to be even better, however, you don't get too many to the reel! dependent on length, which on the board i have are either 42" 52" or 60" long.
I have now attached one to a 3 weight and one to a 5 weight line, and will be trying them out this coming river season, results and thoughts on there use later in the season.
